Privacy Policy

9Bar ("we," "our," or "us") is made by Kindred. We built 9Bar to help espresso enthusiasts dial in new bags of coffee faster. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. What We Collect

Account information. When you sign in with Apple, Google, or email, we receive a unique identifier and optionally your name and email address from the authentication provider (Clerk). We do not store passwords.

Shot and session data. When you log a shot, we store your dose, yield, time, grinder setting, taste notes, and other parameters you enter. This data is tied to your account in our database (Supabase).

Equipment preferences. If you set your machine, grinder, basket, or scale in Profile, we store those preferences.

Anonymous community contributions. Aggregated, anonymized shot statistics (grind direction, yield ranges, freshness windows) are contributed to community benchmarks automatically. Individual shots are never attributed to you in community data — only the aggregate signal is used.

Usage analytics. We collect anonymized event data (e.g., which screens you visit, when the paywall is shown) to understand how the app is used. This data does not identify you personally.

Subscription data. If you subscribe to 9Bar Pro, transaction data is handled by Apple through in-app purchase. We use RevenueCat to manage entitlements. We do not receive your full payment details.

2. How We Use Your Data

To sync your shot history and settings across devices
To provide dial-in recommendations based on your logged shots
To build anonymous community benchmarks that help all users
To manage your subscription and Pro entitlements
To improve the app based on anonymized usage patterns

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your individual shot data with any third party.

3. Third-Party Services

9Bar uses the following third-party services to deliver its functionality:

Clerk (clerk.com) — authentication. Handles Apple SSO, Google SSO, and email magic link sign-in.
Supabase (supabase.com) — database. Stores your shot logs, sessions, and profile settings.
RevenueCat (revenuecat.com) — subscription management. Tracks your Pro entitlement across devices.
Apple In-App Purchase — billing for 9Bar Pro subscriptions.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.

4. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account through the app (Profile → Account → Delete account), all your personal data — shot logs, sessions, profile settings, and your account record — is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days. Anonymous aggregated data that has already been contributed to community benchmarks cannot be reversed, as it is statistical and not linked to you.

5. Your Rights

You can:

Export your data — Profile → Data & Privacy → Export my data
Delete your data — Profile → Data & Privacy → Delete all data
Delete your account — Profile → Account → Delete account

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to access, rectify, or restrict processing of your personal data. Contact us at the email above to exercise these rights.

6. Children

9Bar is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of 9Bar after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
